“Best red dot for Glock 19” sounds like one buying question. It is actually several mechanical questions hiding under the same pistol name. Glock has sold the G19 with standard MOS plates, now ships a different Gen6 optic-ready plate set, and offers a factory Aimpoint A-CUT/COA package. Many G19s have no factory optic cut at all, while aftermarket slides can use almost any direct-milled pattern.

The 30-Second Answer

Glock’s official pages confirm both the G19 Gen4 MOS and G19 Gen5 MOS as adapter-plate pistols. Glock’s Gen6 announcement states that the G19 Gen6 comes optic-ready with three plates. Its A-CUT announcement names the G19 Gen5 among the pistols factory-packaged with the Aimpoint COA on the separate A-CUT interface.

Do not buy the optic until you can place your pistol in one row.

“Best” here means the cleanest manufacturer-documented fit for a specific setup. It does not mean Optics Intel has drop-tested every optic or declared an overall performance winner.

Simplest Gen4/Gen5 MOS route: stay inside Plate 02

Glock’s current optic-mounting guidance says standard Gen4/Gen5 MOS pistols now include one adapter plate for Trijicon, Ameriglo and Holosun optics other than the 509 family. That is Plate 02 in Glock’s standard MOS documentation.

The Trijicon RMR Type 2 and Holosun 507C X2 are two representative starting points in that supported class. The RMR Type 2 is the reference RMR-family optic; the 507C provides Holosun’s selectable reticle system. Choose between their features, controls and service—not because one magically fits “more directly.” Both use the plate.

Other footprints can work through other Glock MOS plates, but they add a purchase and another opportunity to order the wrong part. If low complexity is the priority, the included-plate group is the rational first screen.

Gen6: use Glock’s exact optic table

The Gen6 system is not a reason to recycle a Gen5 shopping list. Glock’s live Gen6 table publishes these exact assignments:

For an enclosed emitter with the strongest paper trail, the Trijicon RCR stands out because Glock names it on Plate 02 rather than leaving the fit to footprint inference. A-CUT: the easy answer with the narrowest choice

The G19 Gen5 A-CUT package is the opposite of MOS. Glock and Aimpoint designed the slide and optic as a matched system: a full-length wedge interface, no adapter plate and no screws passing through the optic housing. Glock’s launch specifies the G19 Gen5, while Aimpoint’s COA system page describes the front hook, rear wedge, enclosed emitter, 3.5-MOA dot and 50,000-hour battery claim.

That makes it the least ambiguous factory path if you are buying the complete pistol/optic package. It also makes it the least flexible: A-CUT is not an RMR pocket and is not standard MOS. Do not buy an A-CUT G19 planning to swap normal MOS plates onto it later.

The Glock 19 Variants This Guide Does Not Merge

Non-MOS Glock 19

The ordinary Glock 19 product page does not describe an optic mounting system. If the slide has no factory optic cover and is not a documented A-CUT package, stop applying MOS tables. Its responsible routes are a professional cut specified for an exact optic or a replacement slide whose maker publishes the cut and hardware.

Rear-sight dovetail adapters exist, but this guide does not recommend them as equivalent to a factory plate pocket or direct mill. They move the optic higher and make the sight dovetail carry loads it was not designed to carry in the same way as an optic interface.

Aftermarket direct-milled slides

“Glock 19 slide” does not identify the cut. An aftermarket slide may be RMR, RMRcc, RMSc, Holosun K, ACRO, 509T or a plate system. The slide maker—not the Glock MOS table—must name the footprint, generation, optic models, screws and maximum protrusion.

If a listing says only “optic ready,” it has not supplied enough information for a purchasing decision.

Important Exceptions

Holosun 407K and 507K are not Plate 02 optics

The compact 407K/507K use Holosun’s K footprint. Holosun publishes the KPLT-MOS9MM for those two optics on compatible 9 mm Glock MOS pistols. That exact plate is the evidence-backed Gen4/Gen5 route. Do not substitute the RMR-family Plate 02 simply because another Holosun model uses it.

Glock’s current Gen6 table does not list the 407K or 507K. Until Glock or a plate maker publishes an exact Gen6 route, this guide does not carry the Gen4/Gen5 K-plate conclusion into Gen6.

Holosun 509 is explicitly outside the normal Holosun group

Glock’s standard MOS page excludes the 509 family from the included Trijicon/Ameriglo/Holosun plate statement. Treat a 509-series optic as its own interface requiring an exact host-and-optic plate. “Holosun compatible” is not specific enough.

RMR footprint does not mean direct to MOS

Installation Rules That Survive Every Variant

Unload and clear the pistol before optic work. Then:

1. Identify the slide system from the pistol, case label and factory documentation—not a retailer title.
2. Match both sides: slide to plate, then plate to exact optic.
3. Use the assigned hardware. A screw can share the right thread and still be too long, too short or wrong for the plate.
4. Dry-fit before thread treatment. The plate and optic must seat flat without rocking or a screw bottoming out.
5. Use current manufacturer torque and retention instructions. Do not copy a torque value from another optic or plate.
6. Witness-mark and confirm zero after the maker’s initial firing and recheck schedule.

The Buying Decision

• Already own a Gen4/Gen5 G19 MOS? Start with the included Plate 02 group unless a specific feature justifies another documented plate.
• Buying a G19 Gen6? Pick only from Glock’s 02/03/04 table, then compare emitter style, window, reticle and service.
• Want a factory plate-free enclosed system? The G19 Gen5 A-CUT + Aimpoint COA is the clean matched route, but it is a dedicated system.
• Own a non-MOS or aftermarket slide? Ignore the factory MOS lists until the exact cut and hardware are established.
