About Optics Intel
We help people avoid expensive optics mistakes by turning fragmented manufacturer documentation into understandable, source-backed answers.
Optics Intel exists because most optics content on the internet is spec sheets with adjectives — or worse, "reviews" by people who never touched the product. We do it differently: our guides are researched against primary sources with every unknown flagged honestly, and the word "review" is reserved for optics we've personally mounted, zeroed, and shot.
We're based on Colorado's Front Range, which happens to put us within driving distance of some of the best-known names in American optics. That gives us a useful regional perspective, but never substitutes for documented sources or actual range time.
Founder & editor
Meet Nick
Nick was raised in Wyoming, where his father introduced him to hunting at an early age. He grew up hunting deer and elk along with birds and small game, beginning a lasting interest in rifles, scopes, and binoculars. He has mounted and used scoped rifles over the years; his current personal setup includes a scoped .223 rifle.
In 2022, Nick graduated from the University of Wyoming as a nontraditional student with a degree in Distributed Math and Science—an interdisciplinary course of study focused on chemistry, biology, mathematics, and anatomy. He also brings 25 years of entrepreneurial experience in online retail and technology.
He founded Optics Intel to apply that scientific and technical background to a problem he kept seeing: optics, mounts, footprints, and hardware are difficult to match confidently, while the information needed to make a good purchase is scattered across manuals and product pages. His goal is to prevent bad purchases and make technical information understandable without pretending the evidence says more than it does.
Nick is based on Colorado's Front Range and will personally conduct Optics Intel's hands-on range testing. Until that testing occurs, the site identifies its work as source-backed research rather than firsthand reviews.

Articles are written and maintained by Nick, founder & editor of Optics Intel. We do not invent credentials or imply hands-on testing where none occurred. Each article identifies its author, publication date, and the evidence behind its conclusions. Corrections can be sent directly to [email protected].
