Documented exceptionA manufacturer source identifies a model-specific conflict.
Before installation

A compatible footprint does not determine screw length, torque, sealing plate, threadlocker, or iron-sight co-witness. Follow the pistol, plate, and optic manufacturers’ instructions for the exact hardware stack in your hands.

Evidence standard

How a path becomes verified

A green pairing requires a manufacturer source for the mounting path and the optic’s declared interface, unless the platform maker names that exact optic. Model-specific conflicts override nominal footprint matches.

Retail listings, Q&A, and owner reviews are monitored as field reports. They help us find missing screws, plate revisions, clearance problems, and mislabeled generations—but they never create a green result on their own.

Spot an error or a missing path? Send the exact model and source; compatibility corrections get priority.

Important distinction

Unknown is different from incompatible.

A blue result means the combination is not documented in this database yet. Red is reserved for a model-specific conflict supported by published evidence. Neither result invites machining, improvised screws, or forcing a plate that appears close.

Common fit questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I know which footprint my pistol slide is cut for?

Check the pistol manufacturer's optic-ready documentation — plate-system pistols list which footprint each numbered plate supports, while direct-milled slides name their cut. Never guess from photos: several footprints look alike but differ in screw spacing, socket depth, and recoil-boss geometry.

Can I put an ACRO-footprint optic on an RMR-cut slide?

Yes, with a verified RMR-to-ACRO adapter. The tradeoff is added height, which can move the optic above your iron sights. A direct plate made for the pistol and optic footprint is the cleaner route when one exists.

What does a manufacturer-verified result mean?

A green result means first-party documentation supports the platform's mounting route and the optic's interface, or the platform maker names that exact optic model. It is strong purchasing evidence for the plate-and-footprint combination, but you must still confirm the exact firearm generation, optic SKU, plate SKU, and installation hardware.

Can I rely on a green result when buying an optic or plate?

Use a green result to identify the documented optic, plate, and slide combination. Before ordering, compare the linked manufacturer pages with the exact model numbers in your cart. Product revisions, regional SKUs, and included hardware can change without changing the footprint name.

What does Compare on My Firearm evaluate?

It evaluates each optic against the exact selected host, then compares manufacturer-published attributes for your chosen priority: everyday carry, all-weather reliability, fast defensive pickup, precision, or low maintenance. Every column shows the fit verdict, mounting path, specifications, hardware notes, and linked evidence. A best-match recommendation appears only when the viable options have enough first-party data; retail price, owner reviews, and unsupported durability claims are not scored.

Does a compatible footprint guarantee the supplied screws will work?

No. Footprint compatibility does not determine screw thread, length, torque, sealing plate, or threadlocker instructions. Use the hardware specified by the firearm or plate manufacturer, confirm the screws do not bottom out or contact internal parts, and have the assembled firearm checked before live fire.

Should I file recoil lugs, shorten screws, or modify a plate to make an optic fit?

Not unless the exact firearm, plate, or optic manufacturer explicitly authorizes that modification for the products in your hands. Retailer answers and owner reports sometimes describe filing lugs or shortening hardware, but the Fit Checker treats those as research leads—not installation instructions—and will instead show the route as incomplete or unsupported.

What is the installation plan shown with some fit results?

It turns an exact verified host-and-optic route into an evidence-backed component list, hardware summary, clearance warnings, unresolved fields, and pre-install checklist. A route can be verified while installation details remain incomplete; the plan labels that distinction and never copies missing screw or torque facts from a similar footprint.

What does “not documented” mean in the fit checker?

It means the database does not have enough manufacturer evidence to recommend a mounting path. It does not mean the combination is physically impossible. The tool reserves a red result for a model-specific conflict supported by published evidence.

Can retailer listings or customer reviews create a verified result?

No. Retailer listings, Q&A pages, and owner reviews are useful for finding possible screw, clearance, or model-revision problems, but they cannot create a green result. Optics Intel uses them as research leads and requires first-party documentation for manufacturer-verified guidance.

Do same-footprint optics always interchange?

Not always. A screw pattern can match while the optic body collides with a fitted mount, and RMSc, Holosun K, DPP, and SIG-derived cuts contain important dimensional variations. The tool applies model-specific exceptions after checking the nominal footprint.

How do I tell which optic cut a SIG P365 has?

First confirm the slide is factory optic-ready. SIG's current P365 manual says raised bosses under the filler plate identify the COMPACT/Shield RMS-c cut, while flush screw holes identify SIG-LOC. Choose the matching checker host; the P365, XL, XMacro, FUSE, or AXG family name alone is not enough.

Does a Holosun 507K direct fit a Springfield Hellcat Pro?

No on the unmodified factory Springfield Micro cut. The Hellcat Pro has a four-boss RMSc-pattern host, while the 507K uses Holosun K geometry. Choose a verified Hellcat-Pro-specific RMSc-to-K plate and confirm its M4 hardware against Springfield's maximum 0.095-inch / 2.4-mm screw protrusion.

Why does the checker reject ROMEOZero on a Hellcat if both say RMSc?

SIG explicitly advises against mounting ROMEOZero on Springfield Hellcat pistols because the design does not provide sufficient screw-thread engagement. This exact model warning overrides the nominal footprint match.

How current is the Red Dot Fit Checker, and how can I report a problem?

The evidence badge shows the database's latest review date, and each verified result links to its manufacturer sources. If a real installation disagrees with the checker, use “Report a fit problem” in the result to email the exact platform, optic, and displayed mounting path to [email protected].
